TetherPro USB-C cables have been flying out the door, customers have been ditching their dongles, and shooting tethered with USB-C cameras such as the Sony a7R III and Hasselblad H6 has never been easier. We’re thrilled about the outpouring of interest and excitement around the new TetherPro USB-C cables and we’ve received a few questions of which we’ve compiled the most common and answered below.
Do I need a TetherBoost when shooting with a TetherPro USB-C to 3.0 Micro-B cable?
Short answer, no. At lengths of 15 feet, the TetherPro USB-C to 3.0 Micro-B does not require a TetherBoost Pro. When adding in length and tethering up to 30 feet with the addition of a TetherPro USB-C to USB-A Female Adapter, a TetherBoost Pro is still not required. However, we have found that at distances of 45 feet, as shown in the below chart, a TetherBoost Pro is recommended.
What cable do I need for my…Nikon D800, Sony a7R III, Canon 5D Mark IV, Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II, Hasselblad H6, Fuji X-T2, Panasonic LUMIX GH5?
This is where our recently updated “Search By Camera” feature really shines. You’ll need to input three pieces of information, the manufacturer of your camera, the model, and the computer port on the laptop or desktop you plan on using. Once the data has been entered the compatible cable and kits will populate.
In the below hypothetical scenario, we’ve input the Nikon D800 and a USB-C port on our laptop. You’ll see that it’s populated two options, our TetherPro USB-C to 3.0 Micro-B and TetherPro USB-C to 3.0 Micro-B Right Angle.
I already have a Tether Tools cable that I still want to use; can I buy an extension and ditch my dongle?
Yes! If you already own a TetherPro USB Cable but want to streamline your connection, we have you covered. Add a TetherPro USB-C to USB-A Female Adapter (15 foot/4.6m) to your existing USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 tether cable and have an increased length in tethering distance.
