As a professional photographer, you are often asked to show your portfolio of work. The iPad is a great tool for this and using the Wallee Pivot provides iMac like elegance to the setup allowing you to show your work in a manner befitting of its quality. The other piece you need is a good quality slideshow/portfolio app. You can obviously use the Photos app on your iPad, but if you’re like me, your professional photos are mixed in with photos of the kids, photos from your phone and other shots that don’t show your best work.

Here are a few app that we think are quality and give you the ultimate control over what’s shown:

Animoto
With this app you create a video slideshow. You select from photos stored on your iPad, add titles, styles and music and save it as a completed video. There is a selection of free music to pick from or you can choose from songs you have on your iPad. The styles option gives you some nice transitions and matching backgrounds and looks very professional. The free version allows for a 30 second video, but Animoto offers paid subscriptions which gives you longer videos, more powerful video creation and sharing features.

Minimal Folio
Minimal Folio allows you to categorize photos into portfolios on your iPad. In presentation mode, you can swipe up and down to see the next photo in that portfolio or left and right to switch between portfolios. It’s very simple to setup and use and doesn’t include text overlays, transitions and music. You can be up and running with a presentation in a matter of minutes. It’s limited feature set is reflected in the price as you can grab it for only $2.99.

FolioBook has a robust set of features including: customizable splash/home page,  integration with DropBox, automated slideshow capabilities, and many more. The customizable splash page allows you to create a home screen that matches your branding or website. The potential client can tap to see text information about a picture or pinch to zoom to see more detail. With so many options, your learning curve to get up and running might take a bit more time than Animoto or Minimal Folio, but the final product will be much more refined. The price is $12.99, but it is a very complete and quality app.
